How to Connect

The #cairnscentral chat room is an irc chat room, which means you need to use what’s called an irc client to connect to it.  An irc client is simply a program that is compatible with an irc server.

There are several programs you can use.

On windows, the most popular option is mIRC, a reliable program which has been around for years.  mIRC is shareware, which means you are allowed to use it for 30 days free, and then you are encouraged to pay for the program. There are other free programs you can use though, including Miranda IM, which also lets you chat on other instant messaging systems (eg. MSN, AOL, Yahoo) at the same time, or Hydra IRC.

For apple, you also have a few options. A couple of these are X-Chat Aqua and Colluquy.

For linux, you can use XChat, or if you are running linux from the command line, BitchX.

Once you have installed your chosen program, the server addresses you can normally use to connect are irc.cairnscentral.net or au.austnet.org. If for some reason these are not working, try the following:

Once you have connected to the server, all you need to do is join #cairnscentral, and you’re good to go.
